Emily Nan Nugent, RN
Biography
Emily is a bachelor’s prepared registered nurse with seven years of critical care experience. After obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Nutrition from Texas A&M University, she completed a fast-track BSN program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Upon graduating in 2010, Emily immediately started working at The Houston Methodist Hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in the Texas Medical Center caring for patients following heart, lung and vascular related surgeries.
Emily is trained to care for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps,Total Artificial Hearts (SynCardia), and Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). As a device trained RN, Emily has also had a hand in training new nurses welcomed onto the unit. After 4 years on the unit, Emily was asked to go through more extensive training to become an ECMO specialist and was one of very few nurses on the unit trained to take care of not only the patient, but the machine. This
prompted Emily to study for her Critical Care Registered Nurse exam which she passed in 2015. Emily also served as the Co-Chair and then Chair of her hospital wide Clinical Documentation and Technology Council and played an integral role in auditing the documentation completed by other nurses and bringing in new and fresh ideas on how to structure the system. Following her training to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant in 2015, Emily began searching for a new role and is now practicing as a RN
Paralegal at Myers Doyle.
